School Open

School will be open and classes running as normal today.

Wednesday, 23 January 2013

SCHOOL OPEN

School will be OPEN today Wednesday 23rd January.

The arrangements will be the same as yesterday, however we are hoping to be able to provide school dinners today.

There is, once again, likely to be significant disruption to the running of the school as heavy snow is still falling and staff may find it difficult to get to school. For this reason I would advise you only to send your child to school today if absolutely necessary and if the journey is not likely to place your or your child at risk: all absences due to snow will be authorised.

The Year 5 trip to Brecon museum will not take place.

Tuesday, 22 January 2013

Important message

Please note school will be open today however please do not travel putting yourselves at risk.

School dinners will not be available so please send a packed lunch with your child.
The year 6 trip has been postponed due to weather conditions.

Any absences will be authorised.

Spelling Lists…We have been working hard to develop effective strategies to improve the children’s spelling; focussing on daily spelling activities and moving away from simply sending home weekly lists for the children to learn. We are conscious, however, that many parents would like to be more involved in helping their children to be better spellers. To enable this we will be sending home half-termly lists of the spellings that the children are working on in school for parents to help them to learn. The children will continue to work on their spellings each day and the focus will still be on the teaching of spelling in school but now with parents also having the opportunity to add to that learning by working with the children at home.
School Dinners…A reminder that the cost of school dinners has risen to £2.10

A wet and windy day at Craig Y Nos

Year 5 & 6 enjoyed a wet, cold and windy day following the course of the River Tawe today.
We all had a go measuring the speed, width, depth and gradient of the river at the source and lower down in the country park. We compared our local river, the Usk, to the Tawe and could see erosion and deposition for ourselves.
An enjoyable, wet day outdoors had by all! A special thanks to the National Park staff and the parent helpers who joined us. Diolch yn fawr.

Netball & TAG Rugby matches away

Well done to both the netball and TAG rugby team! We won both matches on away ground. The winning scores were netball 13-2 and TAG 13-12. 13 must be our lucky number.

We are extremely proud of all the players for excellent play and behaviour. Well done!

Thank you to all the parents for coming along to transport the children and for supporting the teams. We look forward to welcoming Llangors School back in the Spring Term.

Friends of the School…Thank you to the many parents who responded to the call for support in establishing a new Friends committee; we had a very positive meeting earlier this week. We have now filled the main committee positions and look forward to holding our first meeting on Tuesday at 7pm (immediately after parents evening). This meeting will focus on planning the events for this term; consequently, we need a good turn out and parents should attend even if they are only able to commit themselves to assist in a minor way.

Harvest Festival…will be held at St Edmunds on Thursday at 10am. You can help by:
  • Sending in fruit and vegetable to make up hampers to be donated to the Community if you have children in the Nursery and Reception classes.
  • Sending in a donation to charity (Years 1 to 6). The School Council will be choosing a charity at the beginning of next week.
  • Volunteering to help walk the children to the church, both for the rehearsal (Wednesday at 1.30pm) and the festival itself on Thursday. We particularly need assistance with the Nursery and Reception children. Please let your child’s class teacher know if you can help.
