Green light for Space 2 Grow project

Friends and Family at Crickhowell Primary School have been given the green light for their Space 2 Grow Project, following the award of a grant of £4,363 from Environment Wales.
Gareth Davies, Development Officer at Environment Wales said, “It is excellent to see a school working so closely with the local community, encouraging volunteers to roll up their sleeves and create a space for the children, local community and wildlife to enjoy.”

Space 2 Grow will provide an orchard and mini allotments for children, families and the wider community to grow their own, as well as enhancing the school grounds as a haven for wildlife, with the planting of a wildflower meadow and native hedging.

The project which runs until the end of March next year will be given practical support by local gardener, writer and TV presenter Lynne Allbutt.  She said, “I am hugely supportive of any initiative which gets people enjoying life outdoors and creating a space for children and families to grow their own fantastic fruit and veg”.

Head Teacher, Jon Wright, welcomed the grant award, commenting, “The children, staff and parents have worked tirelessly over the past two years to develop and improve the school grounds and make them a first class learning environment for the children. The Environment Wales grant is a just reward for all their efforts.”
